Bold, burgundy lips are all the rage now. Afraid you can’t pull it off? Don’t worry, we’ve got the beauty-411 on this one along with some tricks for flawless application.
Choose Your Best Option
There are a few varieties of burgundy that you can choose from ranging from a super drama matte, a smidge of color, or a glossy burgundy. If you want to tone the color down, add a dab of clear gloss.
Experiment with Colors
Very few makeup artists use "off the shelf" colors! Purchase a few lipsticks and glosses to experiment with, mixing and matching several colors to come up with a signature color.
Go Easy on the Eyes
Don’t make your lips compete with your eyes. If your lips are center-stage with a bright, bold color, use a neutral, natural-looking palette for your eyes.
Exfoliate For Perfection
Burgundy colors can emphasize any chapping/flakes or lip creases, and can more easily “bleed” outside the lips. Slough off dead skin with new Softlips® PURE 100% Natural Lip Polish to have a smooth base for lipstick or lip gloss application.
Don’t Want a Bold Look?
If you don’t want a severe look, you can dab a bit of burgundy on the bottom lip and press your lips together.
It seems pretty straightforward. Open tube of lipstick and apply, right? Wrong! To do burgundy right, makeup artists recommend the following steps:
Cover
An excellent, anti-feathering lip base is already in your bag—your concealer or liquid foundation! Apply this facial make-up to the outside edge of the lips to help prevent the lip color from “bleeding” onto surrounding skin.
Line
It is very important to match your lip liner to your lipstick and it is equally important to apply this liner to the entire lip, not just the edges. Using a lip liner will not only help define your lips, but it will also help set a border for both the lip balm and lipstick.
Balm Your Lips
After the application of lip liner, apply a coat of Softlips® lip protectant with SPF 20 to help condition your lips and protect them from sun damage. This product will soften and moisturize the lips without making them waxy or greasy for the top coat of lipstick or lip gloss.
Brush on Burgundy
For maximum precision with the burgundy lipstick, use a lip brush to apply your lipstick neatly and evenly.
Blot Excess
It’s important to blot any extra lip color
to prevent feathering.
Smile
Check to make sure no lipstick has rubbed off onto your teeth; any color of lipstick on your teeth can be unforgiving.
